ByteDance appears keen to avoid a repeat of the events of the 2025 Spring Festival. During that period, the relatively unknown startup DeepSeek rose to meteoric global fame, catching established giants like ByteDance and Alibaba off guard. DeepSeek shocked investors and tech leaders in Silicon Valley by unveiling a model comparable to OpenAI’s best offerings but developed at a fraction of the cost. By launching Doubao 2.0 ahead of a highly anticipated new model from DeepSeek, ByteDance is proactively working to secure its market position and prevent its rival from dominating the holiday narrative again.

This campaign allowed users to purchase food and drinks directly through the Qwen chatbot using the incentives. The strategy yielded immediate results, causing Qwen’s daily active users to skyrocket from 7 million to 58 million.
This surge brought Qwen within striking distance of Doubao, which recorded daily active users just 23 million higher on the same day.
