Mahindra is gearing up to launch the new 5-door version of their popular Thar SUV in mid-2024. Here’s a quick overview on what we can expect from the bigger, more practical Thar.
New Touchscreen and Interior Features
The new 5-door Mahindra Thar will come with a larger 10-inch touchscreen compared to the 7-inch unit in the 3-door Thar. The new dashboard design looks modern and should have an improved user interface. Air conditioning vents and controls remain similar along with the switches below the screen.
Rear passengers get their own AC vents and seats are expected to be bench type or bucket type depending on the variant. Other new additions are a dashcam and a sunroof.
Familiar Thar Styling in a New Package
The Mahindra’s 5-door SUV will retain the boxy, rugged charm of the Thar with modern touches like LED headlamps and tail lamps. It gets new 10-spoke alloy wheels too. The fixed hardtop and signature Thar elements mean it will have noticeable road presence.

More Space and Features Expected
The longer wheelbase of the 5-door Thar means more space inside, especially for rear seat passengers. It is also expected to come loaded with features like a wireless charger, 6 airbags, dual zone climate control and more.
Engine and Transmission Options
Under the hood, expect the same 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel motors in the new 5-door model too. Both engines should deliver slightly higher power. Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options will be provided along with manual and automatic gearbox choices.
Expected Pricing and Competition
The 5-door Thar will likely be priced from Rs 16 – 20 lakh on its launch. It will compete with the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door and Force Gurkha 5-door in the lifestyle off-roader space.
